Docker Push Error : FATA[0001] Respository does not exist

that was it. I also figured docker push MyImage was enough. your answer solves this. yea!

Ok I finally figured this out…and it’s a combination of things:

  1. docker login
NOTE: I have docker in a group so I don’t have to use sudo, but when I logged in, the creating credentials step that docker takes, creates a file under “root” and so your user group can’t access it…so I had to chmod that into submission…may not be absolutely necessary but it’s what I did.
  2. tag your image with: docker tag username_on_registry/image_name:latest
  3. docker push username_on_registry/image_name:latest

Finally! It’s NOT necessary to use hub.docker.com like someone suggested. The docker.io will get picked up.

Hey DOCKER…update your DOCS!

I’ve the same problem, i’m using Docker version 1.9.0, build 76d6bc9, OSX El Capitan.

Yes, it works, and solves my problem.

It worked for me, without having to specify docker.io. Thanks for the solution.

Worked for me too. Thanks!

I’m getting this problem on a RHEL7.2 server. I’m new to docker so I’m following the quick start quide. I try to push the image I’ve created to docker hub, but I get “Repository does not exist”. I’ve created the account and loged in from cli.

$ docker push docker.io/fredh/docker-whale:latest
Do you really want to push to public registry? [y/n]: y
The push refers to a repository [docker.io/fredh/docker-whale] (len: 1)
Repository does not exist: docker.io/fredh/docker-whale

Hi again! I just reinstalled docker on a fresh server, and now things work better. This time I installed docker from Dockers’ own repo instead of from Redhat. I’ll have to ask them why it fails. Or someone else knows?

I solved my issue using drewkhoury’s comment in ‘unauthorized: authentication required’ when trying to do a `docker push` with DTR

It works!
Thanks

That helped. Thank You.
