Unable to overcome Github rate limit in docker-machine

I’m a bit at my wits’ end. Just installed docker-machine using homebrew and am having trouble creating a new machine. Here is the error message I receive:

$ docker-machine --github-api-token $MACHINE_GITHUB_API_TOKEN create --driver virtualbox oldadmin Running pre-create checks... (oldadmin) No default Boot2Docker ISO found locally, downloading the latest release... Error with pre-create check: "Error getting a version tag from the Github API response.\nYou may be getting rate limited by Github."

When reviewing the Github rate limit for the given token, I get:

$ curl -u scstarkey:$MACHINE_GITHUB_API_TOKEN -i https://api.github.com/users/scstarkey HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: GitHub.com Date: Thu, 25 Feb 2016 16:44:35 GMT Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8 Content-Length: 1250 Status: 200 OK X-RateLimit-Limit: 5000 X-RateLimit-Remaining: 4961 X-RateLimit-Reset: 1456420709

Which leads me to believe there is actually no rate limit for the token I’m giving it.

Does anybody know what could be causing this? Extra information:

$ docker-machine -v docker-machine version 0.6.0, build e27fb87

Thanks so much for any help you might provide!

All the best,
