Docker won't start on windows 10 machine

Docker Desktop for Windows

Just installed docker on my windows 10 laptop X1 carbon 6th gen.
Clicked on the whale icon
Nothing happens on my screen. no windows opens, nada

Task manager shows some dockerish processes running
Docker for Windows
Docker.Service
Docker.Watchguard.exe
Docker.Watchguard.exe

Tried running it as administrator. Same thing.

Is this a common problem for docker newbies?
Any tips would be very much appreciated
