Docker has usually been a container tech option and a compliment to virtualization rather than replacing variant. And the license prices start quite high (VMware vSphere, for example, a standard one starts at $995). But mostly, it’s practical and indeed one of the best options. At my workplace we run Docker on Xen. Works well for us.
