Network Inferface Increases

Question

Is it expected behaviour that as I remove and then re-add a container from a network that the network interface should increase?

This behaviour is causing issues with various multicast applications that remain running in the container.

Preferably we would like the network interface on the container to remain the same through each disconnect and connect to the network, so that the application can reconnect in its own clustering using multicast.

Steps to reproduce

  1. docker network create --subnet=172.18.0.0/16 hazelnet
  2. docker run --name mycontainer --network hazelnet -it --rm alpine /bin/ash
  3. ifconfig // on the alpine shell to show the network interface
  4. docker network disconnect hazelnet mycontainer
  5. docker network connect hazelnet mycontainer
  6. ifconfig // on the alpine shell to show the increased network interface now eth1
