I had docker version “Docker version 17.12.1-ce, build 7390fc6
” running on ubuntu 14.04 machine.
I did sudo apt-upgrade and now i am unable to run docker commands. I get “Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?
” error message.
Below are results of some of the commands i tried after upgrade:
1. docker -v

2. sudo docker service status
docker stop/waiting
3. sudo usermod -aG docker $USER

cannot connect to /var/run/nscd/socket
4. sudo dockered
