It looks like the username is currently set to match the Docker ID. Would the team be open to allowing a different username for the forums? Thanks!
There are multiple options for logging i, the Docker account is one of them. I don’t know if you can’t change your username because you logged in with your docker account or because it is disabled. As a moderator, it looks like I could change your username, but I don’t know if it would break something so I wouldn’t try it yet.
We use Discourse and there are some discusions about it on the Discourse forum
Would you like to change your username or are you just curious if you could do that?
I’d also like my Discourse/forum username changed please - can you change it to cranify5?
Even though Discourse supports changing usernames of local users, this won’t work for us, because the users are synced from the docker identity provider using the docker id. An identity change must be done in the identity provider. Though, I doubt that a changed docker id will align with your current user profile in the forum and just update the username. I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up getting a new user profile in the forum for the new username.
@rimelek do you have an idea what the correct support channel is for this inquiry?
My guess is that the Docker ID is just used as default username for Discourse. I believe there must be an internal ID to map the Docker Hub account to the local user. I’m going to test it first before doing anything with real user accounts..
Update:
No, we can’t change the username after registration:
An error occurred: Username needs to be updated on authentication provider side, since
auth_overrides_username
setting is enabled.
It is a global site setting that causes usernames to be overwritten on each login
Overrides local username with external site username on every login, and prevent local changes. Applies to all authentication providers. (WARNING: discrepancies can occur due to differences in username length/requirements)
I think an alternative option would be creating a new user with the new name and there is a way to merge two users. We have done it before. That would mean only your new local user would remain but your user activity would be merged into the new user. If you want to do that, you can share the new username as your current user and also post a comment with your new user asking for merging your original user to the new one. That way I will know both of the users are yours.
Unfortunately it also means you cannot register with the same email address.
