I having this error while running the docker image and also not able to check the status of the docker and current images & containers!!!
“docker: Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?.”

same problem happened to me.
I used the latest stable verison: Docker version 19.03.2, build 6a30dfc
