Docker Desktop does not detect latest available version

Issue Type:
Bug Report / Update Issue

OS Version/Build:
Windows 11

App Version:
Docker Desktop 4.40

Steps to Reproduce:
We followed these steps on Thursday, May 8, 2025:

  1. Opened Docker Desktop.
  2. Navigated to “Settings” (or “About”) and checked for updates.
  3. Clicked on “Check for updates” or “Update now”.
  4. Docker reported that version 4.40 was the latest available.
  5. However, newer versions (e.g., 4.41) were already listed on the official release notes page:
    Release notes | Docker Docs

Issue Description:
We would like Docker Desktop to always update as soon as a new version is available. However, the application often doesn’t detect the most recent release immediately.

For example, on May 8, 2025, Docker Desktop still showed version 4.40 as the latest, even though newer versions were already published on the official release notes page.

Why is there a delay between the public release of a new version and its availability through the Docker Desktop update mechanism? Is there a way to ensure that we’re always getting the most up-to-date version as soon as it’s released?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Carmelo

I’m not sure about the reason. Maybe there was a bug in 4.40 or I also remember that when the latest Docker Desktop release is added to the release notes, where you can download it, the download link was not immediately updated on Docker’s main page. I haven’t checked it for a while, I believe it had to do something with some kind of rolling update strategy. So it is possible that Docker Desktop doesn’t immediately allow updating to everyone. On the other hand, the current latest release is 4.41.2, so 4.41 should be offered to you as well by now.

But this is a Docker community forum, so if you want to report a bug, you can do it on GitHub
