Docker pull won't work

when I type docker pull nginx, it will fail with message

$ docker pull nginx
Using default tag: latest
Pulling repository docker.io/library/nginx
Network timed out while trying to connect to https://index.docker.io/v1/repositories/library/nginx/images. You may want to check your internet connection or if you are behind a proxy.

How ever when I curl the uri,

 curl https://index.docker.io/v1/repositories/library/nginx/images

It works

It seems like a dns issue.
In fact I have two adapters, one is Ethernet the other is WiFi.
When I use the WiFi adapter, it seems to work:

@cgcgbcbc I saw something similar yesterday. The virtual switch type that we use should insulate Docker from networking changes. Please keep us posted if you find out more.

I am experiencing similar behavior. I cannot pull, and the curl command is successful. I get a degraded status on the switch. Not sure if it’s related. I have tried many of the proposed solutions without success.

Try to diable ipv6 on your host. That worked for me.

In my case, disabling IPv6 did not help.

I had exactly the same problem today, I had installed acrylic dns proxy server and when I turned that off then docker was able to pull. I then restarted the acrylic proxy server and docker continued to work. If you are using some form of local proxy server for development and get this error then try disabling it and see if that clears the problem for you as well.

Switched from router dns to google dns helped.

I’m a “me too” for this one.

I got my Docker for Mac & PC beta keys today and have been so far unable to get Docker to work at all on my Windows 10 (Build 10586.218) host. (Docker 1.11.0 beta 8, git commit 4dc5990)

I’ve tried both using my standard WiFi connection as well as wired tethering to my iPhone, and they both give the same thing: a relatively slow timeout followed by a failure saying that the network timed out. I tried rebooting the machine as well as restarting Docker and resetting several times. I even tried changing network adapters, deleting the HyperV machine and switch, and trying again.

I do notice that in the HyperV manager, the virtual switch shows up as an “internal only” adapter: not sure if this is expected. There’s not much in the main logs.

Reproducing is easy: I haven’t succeeded in even running the hello world, as every attempt to pull fails.

Same here. Can’t add much to the discussion though. I’ve got no special setup here, Thinks to mention:

I’ve got Cisco AnyConnect installed (but not used during test)
No particular errors in die docker logs. The correct DNS Server is used and the query is executed quite nicely.

What worked for me was switching from my custom DNS settings to google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) and then I had to disable and re-enable the vEthernet (Docker NAT) network adaptor in:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network Connections

There seem to be no DNS issues on my end, so it may as well be a different problem.
