Unable to cleanly reinstall Docker Desktop on Linux

I’m running Kubuntu and was successfully using Docker Desktop for months. Somehow the installation has become corrupted and the program won’t start, and gives no error message. I’ve carefully followed the instructions to uninstall Docker Engine and Docker Desktop, then re-install Docker Desktop (three times) but it still fails to start with no error message given.
I don’t think I need Docker Engine, but it was installed previously.
Is there something I can do to completely remove Desktop from my system so it will re-install cleanly?

Which instruction? This is the official guide
