Hi everyone,
If I’m in an organization that requires to buy a Docker Desktop license, but I’m also a contributor to an open-source project, do I have to buy a Docker Desktop license?
Thank you.

I don’t remember any discount for Open Source Project contributors. Did you read about that somewhere? I know JetBrains for example has that, but even that can be used only for that open source project if that project is recognized by them.
As far as I know, you can use Docker Desktop for free at home for the open source project, but if the company is large enoigh to be required to pay, you need to have a sbscription. At least Pro, if you are the only one who works with Docker Desktop.
Hi @rimelek,
This is where I read the information. As I understand, I can use Docker Desktop for free without paying if I am an open-source contributor but I don’t known this right is still valid or not if I also work in a company that require to pay for Docker Desktop license.
As an open source contributor, you personally are not a large (sorry I don’t repeat the requirements) company so you can use it for free outside the company. Then the FAQ shows some examples, but the point is that you are working on a project for yourself, or for the community but not as a large company, so you could work on that open project without paying for Docker Desktop.
If you are working on an open source project on behalf of the company, then
Who’s required to pay for Docker Desktop?
…
- Individuals that contribute to open source projects on behalf of a company with more than $10 million in annual revenue OR more than 250 employees
