Move images folder to a 2nd hard drive

In a new Fedora 41 VM installation, docker desktop runs fine and I understood from some threads in this forum that we can use in settings > resources > Disk image location

so I browse and select a folder on the 2nd hard drive , I click apply, where everybody can read/write docker displays different types of errors and reverts back to the original placement.
Is ther any requirements or conditions to configure before moving this past to the 2nd folder?
Thanks

If you share the error message, it is more likely to get useful replies. If it quickly disappears, can you be quicker with a screenshot or record a video, or just try to quote what you remember?

Step 1

Step 2 I choose the new hrd drive

Step 3 click on apply and restart
No error messages
I get the following dialog

Step 4 I go back to resources , docker desktop directory is created

but still I have “Apply” Button and when I close settings I have

I go back to settings and click apply
I get

and it reverts back to the old folder

but docker cant start for a while, then it starts

I had the same experience when I tried to move my data on Docker Desktop for Windows. It will fail if the target directory actually exists. You need to delete the folder and then try again.

WhenI do the 1st try there is no directory, it creates it thgen when clicking on apply I get this error

Thank you for the even more detailed description than I expected. If you get the error message even when the DockerDesktop fodler doesn’t exist originally, you can report it as a bug:

Have you tried moving the disk to another folder on the same disk? Just to see if that works or the fact that it is an extrnal disk doesn’t matter.

Yes, now no errors but I see only a file and nothing there

Docker.raw is the disk image of the virtual machine. So I guess this is what you need to see there.
